Little Known Michigan License Plate Law
Ever see a license plate you couldn’t read because it was rusted out? Well in 2013 Michigan passed a Law to make all motorists get a new license plate every 10 years. Another subsequent effect of this will be very old and expired plates will not be seen on the road any longer. That means that any Michigan license plate will need to be from 2008 or newer.
If you want to make sure that you extend the life of your plate you can opt for your own license plate protector like this slightly tinted one, some people get them as dark as they can to make it hard to read.
If you want to play it safe we’d go with the clear option.
Even though it is already illegal to drive without a readable plate we see them all the time like the photo above. It is a ticket-able offense.
In the grand scheme of things, this should help make it safer in the event of a hit and run accident, suspicious drivers you spot and need to report to authorities.
